Prompt: What broke your heart.
This was written a few years back when my heart was truly broken and in need of healing.. Which came to me by God’s grace :)
40 Days
40 days in the desert
40 years in the sand
When will my pilgrimage end?
I’m weary, I’m broken
I’ve given it all
I no longer know how to fend
Thrown to the vultures
They ravage and tear
I’m beaten, tired and torn
Awaiting my carcass
Their lustful mouths frothing
Starving for blood, how they swarm
Whispering thoughts
Of defeat in my ear
They lure me to let it all go
Dark melodies haunt me
Pulling me down
Battering my soul to and fro
This garment of sorrow
Much too well worn
Enshrouds me; I call out Your name
I search for Your manna
I search for Your cave
I search for healing, I’m lame
Give me oasis
Give me Your drink
A lost dear, I come to you panting
Thirsting for lifeblood
Thirsting for waters
Thirsting and quenched barely standing
I reach out with fingers
Parched and so weak
Your loving hand ever so present
Your fragrance so sweet
Your oil so healing
Your touch so perfect and pleasant
How was it I turned
To that desert of void?
How was it I left Your sweet side?
Help me to keep
My eyes just on You
To remember, I am Your precious child
